Last week I had the privilege attending LeadsCon Las Vegas. For those of you who weren’t able to be there, I’d recap the overall conference in one line like this;
LeadsCon, in its inaugural outing, established itself as the premier national conference for both buyers and sellers in the online lead generation space.
What I found most unusual and refreshing about the conference was the open attitude that was fostered by the give and take nature of all the panel presentations. While conferences are often structured around a panel of speakers who speak to the audience, LeadsCon was built around panels who had an open dialogue with a moderator, other panelists and the audience. Audience participation was robust, and the exchange of ideas and perspectives was powerful. I found myself drawn in by the discussions, instead of tuned out and checking email on my laptop. And as I looked around at the rest of the audience, I was amazed that everyone else seemed to be having the same experience.
I was speaking with Jay Weintraub, the founder of LeadsCon months before the conference, and he told me that he was planning something very different that what we commonly saw in our industry. Honestly, I didn’t get it at the time. But I have immense respect for Jay and his writing and perspective on our industry. So we booked our tickets, made our hotel reservations and planned to attend another Vegas conference.
I couldn’t have been more pleasantly surprised. I came away with a notepad full of solid information and ideas, and met more new people than I have at any industry event I have attended. And no, I have nothing to do with putting on LeadsCon and this is not a paid promotional piece. But each week in this column I try to bring you something of importance from our industry. This week, LeadsCon was the most important thing that happened in our industry.
To Jay and his team, here’s wishing you continued success and future conferences. To those who attended, thanks for what you gave to make the event special. And to those who didn’t make this one, while you might not be able to say you were at the first one, trust me, you don’t want to miss number two.
