Deleting all of the spam that accumulates in your Gmail “Spam” folder has always been a bit of a hassle. Users of the Google e-mail service would have to “Select All,” and then click the “Delete Forever” button. Just recently, Google took steps towards simplifying the process.
Users will now see a “Delete all spam messages now” link just above their spam messages in their “Spam” folder. Once this link is clicked, a pop-up message warns you that you will be affecting X number of conversations in Spam, and asks: “Are you sure you want to continue?” Clicking “OK” in this box will proceed to delete all the unwanted messages in the “Spam” folder.
A similar feature will also be made available for the “Trash” folder in Gmail.
Gmail will soon offer new filter capabilities as well, though when these will be implemented is yet unknown. Users will soon be able to apply filters to their old e-mails.
As stated on the Google Operating System blog, “Now when you create a filter or update one, Gmail allows you to apply it to old emails.” The post proceeds to list a number of ways to use this capability.
