Online Ad Revenues Soar To $3.1 billion
by Jason Hahn

Online ad revenues for the third quarter of 2005 rose to a record-setting $3.1 billion.  This is a 4.7% increase from the second quarter’s $2.9 billion, and a 33.9% increase over the $2.3 billion in online ad revenues for the third quarter of last year, according to a report released Monday, November 21st by the Interactive Advertising Bureau and PricewaterhouseCoopers.  The Interactive Advertising Bureau is forecasting that total revenues for the year will exceed $12 billion, which would be a surge of more than 25% from 2004’s $9.9 billion.

This estimate is consistent with other reports showing sustained growth and strength in online advertising.  Google’s third quarter ad revenues grew to $1.578 billion, which marks a 95% jump from their ad revenues in the third quarter of 2004.  Third quarter marketing services revenue at Yahoo! grew 46% to $1.16 billion, up from $797 million in third quarter 2004.  Ad revenues at AOL increased to approximately $324 million in the third quarter, which is a 28% rise over last year’s figure.
