YouTube Still Online Video King
by Jason Hahn

According to the most recent comScore Video Metrix report for September 2007, Google Sites (which includes YouTube) remains the king of the online video hill, both in terms of the number of videos viewed and in terms of unique video viewers.

More than 9.2 billion online videos were viewed by users in the U.S. in September, with Google Sites showing 2.6 billion of those videos, which is a 28.3% share.  Of this number, 2.5 billion were viewed at YouTube, which accounts for 27.6% of the total.

Fox Interactive Media was a distant second with 387 million, or 4.2%, while Yahoo! Sites were third with 381 million, or 4.1%.  Viacom Digital, Time Warner Network, Microsoft Sites, Disney Online, ESPN, Comcast Corporation, and CBS Corporation filled out the top 10 list, in that order.

In September, 136 million viewers in the U.S. watched a video online, or almost three in every four users.  Google Sites attracted 71.6 million of these viewers, or 39.4%.  Fox Interactive Media drew an audience of 41.2 million during the month, or 22.6% of the total.  Yahoo! Sites pulled 39.6 million, or 21.7%.

Time Warner Network, Microsoft Sites, Viacom Digital, Bodog, ESPN, Disney Online, and CBS Corporation rounded out this top 10 list.

Online viewers in the U.S. spent an average of about three hours (181 minutes) watching online videos during September, and watched 68 videos during the month.  The average online video viewed during the month was 2.7 minutes in length.
