Google Captures 50% of April Searches
by Jason Hahn

According to Nielsen//NetRatings, Google garnered 50% of all searches conducted in April, once again proving their dominion over the search realm.  Yahoo! was second with 22%, while MSN was third with 11%.

Google’s share of all search queries has risen 3% since April of 2005.  Over the same time period Yahoo!’s share has remained the same, while MSN’s share has fallen 1%.

“What I think having 50 percent of all searches means for Google is that there is extreme brand loyalty from Google clients and that it is almost impossible to break the Google habit,” said Michael Lanz, vice president of search industry solutions at Nielsen//NetRatings.

In terms of the year-over-year growth in the actual number of searches conducted, Google increased 34% to 2.7 million in April, while Yahoo! jumped 27% to 1.2 million.  MSN hopped up 10% to 570,000.

ComScore Networks registered different numbers, indicating that Google has 43% of the market, while Yahoo! and MSN have 28% and 13% respectively.
