Google is Top Company, Brand in November; Americans Spent 2.75 Days Online
by Jason Hahn

The Nielsen Company released some data from November earlier this week and revealed that Google was the top parent company, while the average U.S. user spent 2.75 days online during the month.

Google was the top parent company in November, with 155.5 million unique people visiting its properties at least once during the month. Each person spent, on average, 2:24:13 (hh:mm:ss) on its properties during November.

Microsoft was second with 137.2 million unique visitors during the month, each spending an average of 2:02:11 on its properties.

Yahoo! was third with 131.4 million unique visitors during November, each spending an average of 3:03:36 on its properties.

Facebook was fourth with 109.7 million visitors, each spending an average of 6:10:06 on its properties during the month, the most time recorded for any of the top 10 parent companies/divisions in November.

AOL LLC boasted 87.0 million unique visitors, each spending an average of 2:32:32 on its properties.

News Corp., Online (80.3 million visitors), InterActiveCorp (71.8 million visitors), Amazon (68.8 million visitors), eBay (66.8 million visitors) and Apple Computer (62.1 million visitors) rounded out the top 10 list.

The top Web brand in November was Google, followed by Yahoo!, Facebook, MSN/Windows Live/Bing, Microsoft, YouTube, AOL Media Network, Fox Interactive Media, Apple and Amazon.

“The parent level is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs owned by a single company or division,” a statement made by Nielsen delineates. “The brand level is defined as a consolidation of multiple domains and URLs that has a consistent collection of branded content.”

Nielsen also indicates that there were 51 sessions or visits per person in November, and that 86 domains were visited per person.

More than 66 hours were spent on a personal computer per person, while 2,603 Web pages were viewed per person during the month. The average duration of a Web page view was 57 seconds.
