Google Wins in September
by Jason Hahn

Google topped the list of search providers in the U.S. during the month of September, once again dominating the field.

The search behemoth was given a shade under 4.0 billion queries to take care of in September, which was 54.0% of all queries conducted during the month. This reflected a 41.3% year-over-year growth.

Yahoo! followed behind once again, reigning in about 1.4 billion queries, or 19.5% of all searches conducted in September. This was 9.3% more queries than it handled last year.

MSN/Windows Live Search handled 891 million searches, or 12.0% of all queries during the month. This was a year-over-year growth of 71.5%.

AOL Search was fourth on the list, handling 445 million queries, or 6.0% of the total, reflecting growth of 24.0% from last year.

Ask.com Search was fifth, garnering 159 million searches during September, or 2.2% of all queries during the month, reflecting growth of 4.5% over last year.

My Web Search, Comcast Search, BellSouth Search, SBC Yellow Pages Search, and My Way Search rounded out the top 10 list, in that order.

These ranking lists are getting stale. The unveilings of Powerset and Wikiasari will hopefully spice things up a bit.
