Online Gambling, Toys, Malls, Travel Sites Gain in July

Online gambling, retail and travel information websites saw strong gains in July, according to comScore. Meanwhile, The Mozilla Organization saw a significant boost in the rankings of the top 50 online properties during the month.

Fresh off of the main event of the World Series of Poker in July, online gambling sites saw an 11 percent boost in traffic from June, finishing July with 13.4 million unique visitors.

“The World Series of Poker tournament brought out the competitive side of Americans in July, prompting millions to visit online gambling sites to test their card-playing skills,” said Jeff Hackett, senior vice president of comScore Media Metrix.

PokerStars was the top dog in this category, boasting 2.4 million visitors (up 8 percent), followed by FullTiltPoker with 2.3 million visitors (up 14 percent), Kingolotto Network with 2.0 million visitors (up 31 percent) and UltimateBet.com Online Poker with 1.0 million visitors (up 33 percent).

Toy-related sites also saw an 11 percent month-over-month boost in traffic, finishing July with 18.4 million visitors. Meanwhile, mall-related sites saw an 11 percent increase in traffic, finishing the month with 18.1 million visitors.

Travel information-related sites also saw an 11 percent rise in traffic, as they received 59.2 million unique visitors during July, according to comScore.

TravelAdNetwork was No. 1 in this category with 18.9 million visitors, up 16 percent from June. TripAdvisor was second with 13.1 million visitors, while Yahoo Travel was third with 11.0 million.

Ticket-related sites experienced an 8 percent boost in traffic, finishing July with 29.0 million visitors. Business-to-business sites experienced an 8 percent rise in traffic, as the finishing the month with 53.7 million visitors.

Consumer goods-related sites (up 7 percent), humor-related sites (up 7 percent), personal finance-related sites (up 6 percent) and coupon-related sites (up 5 percent) all saw strong month-over-month gains in unique visitors.

PCH.com (the website of the Publishers Clearing House) was the top gaining property in July, as it saw its audience grow 53 percent to 7.6 million, compared to 5.0 million in June.

Google Sites was the top online property in July with 178.4 million unique visitors, followed by Yahoo Sites with 174.2 million visitors, Microsoft Sites with 164.7 million visitors, Facebook with 145.5 million visitors and AOL LLC with 107.5 million visitors.

The Mozilla Organization ranked 29th with 35.1 million unique visitors, though this reflected a 10-spot leap up the rankings.

BrightRoll Video Network was the top ad network in July with a potential reach of 95.8 percent, followed by SpotXchange Video Ad Network with a potential reach of 93.3 percent. YuMe Video Network had a potential reach of 89.1 percent.
