US Online Video Viewers Watch 34 Percent More Videos

In November 2008, U.S. Internet users saw nearly 12.7 billion online videos, reflecting a 34 percent increase compared to the same month during the previous year, according to comScore Video Metrix.

Google Sites ranked first once again in the rankings of the top U.S. online video properties by videos viewed.  More than 5.1 billion videos were viewed on its properties, with YouTube accounting for more than 98 percent of those videos viewed.  Google Sites claimed a 40.3 percent share of all videos viewed in November

Fox Interactive Media was second with more than 439 million videos viewed on its properties, which includes MySpace.  This gave it a share of 3.5 percent of all videos viewed.

Viacom Digital was third with almost 325 million videos viewed in November, giving it a 2.6 percent share.

Yahoo! Sites came in fourth with a 2.4 percent share, followed by Microsoft Sites with 2.3 percent and Hulu with 1.8 percent share.

Turner Network (1.7 percent), Disney Online (1.1 percent), AOL LLC (0.9 percent) and ESPN (0.8 percent) rounded out the top 10 list.

In terms of unique viewers, Google Sites ranked first with nearly 98 million online video viewers in November, each of whom watched an average of 52.2 videos during the month.

Fox Interactive Media was second with more than 58 million viewers, each of whom watched an average of 7.6 videos during the month.

Yahoo! Sites came in third with almost 40 million unique viewers, each viewing an average of 7.6 videos during November.

Microsoft Sites ranked fourth with nearly 35 million viewers, each of whom viewed 8.5 videos during the month.

Viacom Digital, Hulu, AOL LLC, Turner Network, Disney Online and Time Warner – Excluding AOL rounded out the top 10 list.

More than 146 million Americans viewed online videos in November, which translates to about 77 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience.  The average viewer watched 86.8 videos during November.
