The State of the Browser Wars
by Jason Hahn

The dust from Google Chrome's arrival has long since settled, so it's time to refocus for a bit on the two current big boys in the browser wars:
1)
Microsoft's Internet Explorer and 2) Mozilla's Firefox.

Internet Explorer is still the top dog in the browser realm with 71.27 percent of the market, according to Net Applications as of Monday night.  Firefox is second with 19.97 percent of the browser market.

Safari is third with 6.57 percent of the market, followed by Opera with 0.75 percent and Chrome with 0.74 percent.

IE has lost some of its lead since the beginning of the year, when it owned 75.47 percent of the market in January.  Firefox held a 16.98 percent of the browser market pie in January.

Safari has also picked up some market share, building on its 5.82 percent share in January.  Opera has also shown growth from its 0.62 percent market share at the beginning of the year.

Firefox is planning major improvements for its next iteration of its popular browser, while Chrome has battled some bugs in recent weeks.

The battle of the browsers will only grow more interesting as it shifts into the mobile arena.
