Google Chrome Market Share Hovers Around 1%
by Jason Hahn

There were various updates concerning Google Chrome’s market share in the browser realm late last week following its September 2nd release date.  TechCrunch, for instance, saw Chrome’s market share in its Google Analytics numbers at 6.23% on Thursday, September 4th.

Clearly, Web sites catered to a more tech savvy audience will see more visits by way of Chrome browsers compared to sites that are not as catered to those audiences.  Tech sites that heralded Chrome’s launch probably saw even more inflated market share numbers for Chrome.

Net Applications is offering an hourly usage share chart for Google Chrome, listing shares from September 2nd at 2:00 p.m. EDT.  Chrome’s usage share, according to Net Applications, topped out at 1.73% on September 5th at 4:00 a.m. EDT, but came back down to earth and dropped to 0.80% by Monday at 5:00 p.m. EDT.

Chrome’s usage share, according to Net Applications, has remained around the 1% line since its big launch.

The usage share figures for Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2, however, were a bit duller.  While it is steadily increasing, as of Monday, IE 8 Beta 2 had a usage share of 0.34%.

Google recently fixed two security flaws in its browser, though the company was kept relatively mum on the details.
