Microsoft Top Parent Company in April
by Jason Hahn

Although Microsoft can’t seem to lay a finger on Google when it comes to search market share, it can claim a bigger unique audience as a parent company than the search giant. In April, Microsoft led the list of the top 25 parent companies in terms of unique audience, according to data released by Nielsen//NetRatings.

In April, Microsoft garnered a unique audience of about 118.5 million users, with each spending an average of a little over two hours on its properties.

Google followed behind with a unique audience of about 115.9 million users, with each spending an average of about one hour and 26 minutes on its sites.

Yahoo! (107.5 million), Time Warner (103.7 million), and News Corp. Online (73.6 million) rounded out the top five.

Time Warner led all 25 companies on the list in terms of time per person with a shade over four hours and 17 minutes. Yahoo! was second in terms of time per person with almost three hours and four minutes.

eBay, InterActiveCorp, Amazon.com, Wikimedia Foundation, and Landmark Communications filled in the remaining top 10 spots.

Though Apple Computer was number 11 on the list, its time per person was almost an hour and 17 minutes.

The top stickiest brand in April was FullTiltPoker.com, which had a unique audience of 1.13 million and a time per person of almost 12 hours and 28 minutes.

This top 10 list was dominated by online poker sites, including PokerStars.com and UltimateBet.com, which were second and third place respectively.

Trillian, Absolute Poker, Electronic Arts Online, Juno Online Services, Brigham Young University, PartyPoker.com, and AOL Media Network rounded out the top 10 list.

All information was collected for both home and work audiences.
