Craigslist is Top Search Term

According to recent figures posted by Hitwise, “craigslist” was the top overall search term for the four weeks ending May 16, 2009.


“Craigslist” received 0.63 percent of all clicks during that time period, beating out “myspace” with 0.56 percent and “facebook” with 0.52 percent.


“eBay” was fourth with 0.30 percent, followed by “myspace.com” with 0.25 percent, “youtube” with 0.22 percent, “yahoo” with 0.15 percent, “facebook login” with 0.14 percent, “facebook.com” with 0.13 percent and “mapquest” with 0.12 percent.


“Jon & kate plus 8” was the fastest moving search term, followed by “how to get rid of bedbugs,” “montauk monster,” “montauk monster pictures,” “preakness,” “7-year-old tattooed,” “grey’s anatomy news,” “cheerios,” “religious humor stories” and “hoopz sex tape.”


“Craigslist” was also the top retail search term during the four weeks ending May 16, receiving 4.12 percent of clicks, followed by “ebay” with 2.00 percent.


The data from Hitwise also showed that JobStar received 12.23 percent of clicks for the search term “resume,” followed by Pongo Resume with 11.65 percent and Best Sample Resume with 8.62 percent.


“Mapquest” was the top travel search term with 2.73 percent of clicks, followed by “map quest” with 0.91 percent and “mapquest driving directions” with 0.89 percent.


And to be up on recent times, Hitwise listed the top “swine flu” search term variations. “Swine flu” unsurprisingly ranked at the top of the list with 24.61 percent of all queries, followed by “swine flu symptoms” with 10.41 percent and “symptoms of swine flu” with 2.55 percent.


With regards to ad networks, AOL’s Platform-A remained at the top of the hill in April, according to comScore. The top ad network reached nearly 176.5 million unique visitors, increasing its reach by 3 percent compared to the same month last year.


Yahoo! Network finished second, reaching 167.1 million unique visitors in April, a 4 percent increase. Google Ad Network was third with a reach of 164.5 million unique visitors, a 6 percent increase.


Turn Inc. experienced the largest year-over-year increase in its reach as it made contact with the largest year-over-year increase in its reach as it made contact with 134.0 million unique visitors in April, a 121 percent increase.


CPX Interactive saw its reach increase 88 percent to 130.4 million, while 24/7 Real Media increased its reach 48 percent to 147.7 million in April.
