Google Owns the U.K.
by Jason Hahn

In June, Google cracked the 3/4 mark in the U.K. search market by handling 75.3% of all queries conducted in the European country.  This was an improvement from their 74.7% share in May, according to comScore qSearch 2.0.

eBay was a distant second with a 5.5% share of the U.K. search market, a drop off from its 5.7% share in May.  Yahoo! was third with 4.3% of all searches conducted in June, a rather large drop off from its 4.7% share during the previous month.

Microsoft was fourth with a 3.4% share, an improvement from its 3.3% share in May.  Ask was fifth with 2.4%, a drop from its 2.6% share during the previous month.

AOL LLC’s market share jumped to 2.3% from its 1.6% share in May, thanks in large part to its acquisition of Bebo, a social networking site that mostly has big popularity in overseas markets.

Facebook (2.2%), Amazon (0.7%), BBC (0.7%), and Rightmove (0.6%) rounded out the top 10 U.K. search properties in June.

In total, there were 3.9 billion queries conducted in the U.K. during June.  Each of the U.K.’s 31 million searchers carried out about 124 searches during the month, or about 4.1 searches per day.
