Internet Marketing

The Biggest Misconception about Marketing Online!
by Harald Anderson

There is a great story I recently heard that reminded me about what it
takes to be successful in marketing your business.

Let me share it with you:

Matthew goes into a confessional box at his church to ask forgiveness
for his sins.

He steps into the box, kneels down and whispers…..

"Forgive me for I have sinned.  I have been with a loose woman from
your parish and spent all last night indulging in sins of the flesh."

The priest says, "Is that you Matthew?"

Matthew responds, "Yes Father, it is I."

After a short pause, the Priest says, “Go ON my Son, tell me more."

"Well Father, we started dancing and then we drank a lot of wine and
the next thing I know we spent six hours indulging the
pleasures of the flesh," said Matthew.

"I see my Son.  Tell me more.  Who was the woman you were with?"
said the Priest.

"I'm sorry Father, but I cannot tell you that.  I don't want to sully her
reputation."

"Was it Eileen O'Shaughnessy?" asked the priest.

"No Father.  It was not," said Matthew.

"Was it Brenda Mahoney?" asked the Priest.

"No Father.  It was not," said Matthew.

"Was it Jill O'Flannery?" asked the Priest.

"No Father.  It was not," said Matthew.

The Priest very patiently paused and breathed a heavy sigh.  "Alright
my Son.  I admire your integrity.  You are a child of God and you must
atone your sins.  Say five Our Father’s, four Hail Mary's and all is
forgiven."

Matthew thanks the Priest and quietly returns to his pew to atone for his sins.

As he pulls out his rosary beads, his friend slides over next to him
and asks…

"What did you get?"

Matthew responds….
"I got five Our Father’s, four Hail Mary's and
Three Really Great Leads!"

The story speaks for itself. I love it because success in business is all about generating an abundance of quality prospects who are genuinely interested in your service.

The biggest misconception about marketing online is that people think
it’s about the technology.  Newbies to the web think that it’s all
about computers.  However, I come to say it is not.   The internet is a technological marvel, nevertheless business is always about bringing people together.

Fifty years ago, telegrams were considered the closest thing to Instant
Messaging. Thinking that the internet is alike computers is akin to thinking
that telegrams were about the lumber that held up the telephone lines.

The value of the web is that it should be perceived as an interactive communications tool that is capable of being independent of time and location.  You build customers over time through your communication with them.  In the offline world this can be very costly.  On the web it is the way that business is transacted.

Success online and offline boils down to learning how to stand in front of
other people’s traffic.

The story about Matthew above should provide some food for thought
for truly thinking outside the box in your lead generation campaigns.
