Active Internet Users Disappear in February
by Jason Hahn

Are people not using the Internet anymore?

That might be a question people ask after seeing that the number of active Internet home users in big countries across the globe actually declined from January to February 2008.

Switzerland realized the biggest decline in the number of active Internet home users, with 136,250 fewer users in February compared to January, or a 3.40% decrease.

Australia followed behind with a decrease of 2.53%, followed by the U.K. (-0.93%), Italy (-0.87%), the U.S. (-0.35%), and Japan (-0.28%).

On the positive side, Brazil saw its total number of active Internet home users increase 4.47%, followed by France (4.05%), Spain (1.82%), and Germany (0.32%).

It’s unlikely that Internet users in general are on the decline, so this one month hiccup may be due to seasonal reasons.  Home is not the only place users are accessing the Internet, so this could just be another indication that more people are accessing the Web through mobile devices or at their workplaces.

Or maybe financial hardships are taking their toll on Internet usage.

(Half kidding.)
