Bloggers and Ads
by Jason Hahn

Technorati ask full-time and part-time bloggers about their advertising habits and found that more than half of them ran ads on their blogs, according to the blog search company's "State of the Blogosphere" report.

Of the bloggers who run ads on their sites, nearly 70 percent of them use self-service platforms such as Google’s AdSense.  Twenty-three percent of bloggers use three or more ad platforms.

Thirty-five percent of bloggers who run ads feature affiliate ad links, while 10 percent run ads through ad networks for blogs.

Bloggers also work directly with advertisers, with 19 percent of them saying so.

While U.S. bloggers made an average of $5,060 in blog ad revenue, the median was just $200, which offers a more realistic picture of the landscape and its possibilities.

With regards to the notion that bloggers might be tempted to become mercenaries for brands that pay them to write about their products, a relatively small 6 percent of respondents said they get paid to write product reviews on their blogs.

Still, 90 percent say they write about brands, while four out of five say they post product reviews.

Forty-six percent of respondents said they do not include ads on their blogs.
