The Path to Profit
The ad network is dead. Long live the ad network. Depending on whom you ask, things are doing very well or not quite well enough. The same of course holds true for Internet advertising as a whole. On the one hand...
Real Genius
Having worked for more than a few years, here are two things that we can say about the Internet advertising industry. First, if you work in the space, you will meet an incredible number of truly smart people. Second, if you...
Breaking the Lead Gen Barrier: Part 1 in a 4 Part Series
As the cofounder of Burstabit Media and the LinkTrust tracking and lead management platform, I come across companies all the time who are eager to start brokering leads and co-registration data rather than just sending traffic from their affiliates to their merchant's websites.
Click Fraud is Down, and Up
The latest numbers released by Click Forensics, a traffic quality management company, indicate that while click fraud during the first quarter of 2008 is down compared to the fourth quarter of 2007, it is up compared to the same quarter last year.
Obama Wins in Online Video
According to recent figures released by Nielsen Online, presidential candidate Senator Barack Obama has a healthy lead in the battle taking place in the realm of online video.
Online Banking Going Strong, but Still Seen as Risky
While online banking continues to become more prevalent, the general perception seems to be mixed. This stems from the fear of having critical information hijacked online, and the subsequent potential for unauthorized withdrawals from bank accounts.
Yahoo Answers is Popular
Among Yahoo!’s many products and services, Yahoo! Answers is undoubtedly one of its best, and users around the globe seem to be riding the wave.

There are no dumb questions, just dumb people who refuse to ask questions!
Don't ever be embarrassed to ask questions in this business. We tend to use interchangeable words that can mean multiple things. I would rather hear someone say "I don't know" or "let me ask" than simply give me an answer that may or may not be correct.
Everybody had to start sometime and we've all been called 'green' so the best way to ingratiate yourself is to ASK QUESTIONS.

Variety is the spice of life, but too many spices makes for a muddled mess.
Spreading yourself too thin across every publishing channel and affiliate network can distract you more than empower you.
Stay focused!

It is not too soon to start planning your moves for Affiliate Summit.
Avoid walking into the exhibit hall like a deer in headlights.
Check out the list of attendees, and make note of which booths you want to visit before you get there.
Plan to meet with your Affiliate Manager to talk business and further grow the relationship. Please note that your AM’s schedule will fill up rapidly. As it is still early right now, you should take this opportunity to secure a time that’s convenient for you. Make the most of the upcoming show!

We think too small, like the frog at the bottom of the well. He thinks the sky is only as big as the top of the well. If he surfaced, he would have an entirely different view.

Know when to move on.
There is a fine line between persistence and "beating a dead horse".
Be persistent but know when to move on & let it go. It's not to say you can't circle back around down the road, but sometimes you can do more harm than good by being overly aggressive!

Remember that variety is the spice of life.
Mailing diverse offers from multiple verticals could benefit you in the long run.
Although your list may have performed well with campaigns from a specific category in the past, by ignoring the rest of the expansive selection of campaigns offered by your affiliate network you may miss a golden opportunity.
If an offer goes stale, it's important to have a backup plan, listen to the campaign recommendations of your account manager and don't be deterred by initial set-backs.

Communication is a two way street.
It's just as important, or more
important, to listen to your clients as it is to speak to them.
Listen to your clients and hear what they need, then tell them how you can help solve their problems.
The same goes with your online users. Remember, you have 2 ears, but only 1 mouth!

Communication and timing is everything in this industry.
You can't always control timing. But, if you continue to build your communication skills, when the time comes you will be in a position to make something happen.
Following up and communicating with your partners is not a 'some of the time' thing, it is an 'all of the time' thing.
Know your own personal competencies and be sure to practice and refine them. This way, once again, when the time arises you can flip the switch and capitalize on more opportunities.

When talking to your affiliates, I find it best to talk your way
around a direct question
- instead of asking "are you looking for
anything specific?" say, "I think you would do really well with
this...what do you think?" and show them the landing page of
something you think they would like.
That way instead of them being
able to say no too quickly they can at least click on the link and
give you any necessary feedback on what they are doing well with.
