We’re two weeks into the New Year, but unlike years past, this year doesn’t feel the same as the other beginnings of new years. I mean, all signs suggest that it should be the same. There were plenty of New Year’s parties.

Partner Marketing
Partner loyalty is comparable to consumer loyalty. Two separate studies on customer loyalty, published in the Journal of Consumer Research, demonstrate that as many as 50% of customers can be swayed by a competitor’s sales and marketing message, word-of-mouth advice and special incentives.

Trends
Many aspects to online advertising saw tremendous growth in 2004. Among the biggest percentage gains took place in an area that received among the least press - search engine arbitrage.

.COM 2.0
Is this .com2? It feels like all of the press being reported for the online advertiser is extremely positive. The numbers look good and the general impression about advertising on the internet is also positive.

The Demise of Lead Generation
So far most of the articles I’ve read give positive projections for our industry in 2005. When asked to write this article, and give my projections for online lead generation in the New Year, I was conflicted. Although I feel this will be a great year, I am fearful that if some online lead-generation business practices continue the way they were in 2004, we may experience an unwanted downturn in our business.
